Brentford Chamber Meeting at Chiswick Auctions September 2011
We were delighted last month to attend a meeting hosted by Tom Keane at Chiswick Auctions.
Arrivals were able to observe the tail-end of a live auction before gathering upstairs for drinks while the public finished and left. We returned to the auction room, glass in hand, to listen to Tom Keane’s tales of an auctioneer. If you’ve never heard him speak Tom is a great raconteur and painted us a vivid picture of life behind the scenes at an auction house.
We were then treated to a splendid buffet after which we attempted a little competition to guess the age, origin and materials of selected objects in the auction room. Hazel Dakers had the best answers and walked away with a Wedgwood dish.
Lizzie Dove from UWL said “It was great to be able to network with others from the Chamber in such interesting surroundings and I have to say the food was absolutely delicious. Tom Keane was a great speaker and really interesting and the quiz was really good fun. All in all it was an evening to remember and the invitation was very much appreciated.”
Charles French said “We had such fun meeting new people and old faces such as Chris Hughes and Sarah Poland – I have her business card and will chase her up for their contact details. Tom the auctioneer was a character and his anecdotes were fascinating. It’s all another world of smoking mirrors and dodgy rings! The wine flowed and the buffet supper splendid. Plenty to eat and drink, just perfect for a Monday night to start the week! We were very impressed with Peter’s introduction which got everyone in the mood and swing for the evening!”
We do appreciate the numerous similar remarks from others and look forward to visiting again.
