Brentford Chamber visit Syon House
Over the past few years, Brentford Chamber of Commerce has held its summer picnic in the grounds of Syon House, followed by a tour of the archaeological digs that have coincided with our visit.
This year, on July 9th, for the first time our members and guests were treated to a different style of evening which included an exclusive tour of the house itself. On what proved a very popular event, everyone gathered outside in the sunshine at the rear of the house for a few drinks and an excellent cold buffet, before starting the tour in the Great Hall with a short history of the house.
Our guide for the evening was Leslie Feore, who has the privilege of actually living in the house, and she gave a most informative and entertaining commentary as we walked round. The interior is a stunning example of the work of Robert Adam, who worked at Syon in the 1760s, and, while most of the original fittings and furnishings survive, the more recent photographs of the current Percy family give a real sense of a grand family home, albeit one that they haven’t used as such for many years.
Syon House is one of Brentford’s most precious assets and it was a delight to be able to host such a relaxed and enjoyable evening in such an interesting and historically important venue.
