What Does Redevelopment of Brentford Mean For Your Business?
Dear Members,
I was invited to the launch of the Golden Mile future plans1 for Brentford, presented by London Borough of Hounslow last Thursday.
The plans put forward are futuristic and will no doubt make a huge impact on those who live and work here over the coming years.
It was very encouraging to see the increased development that is happening at BskyB and a future Brompton World centre potentially being built to keep this award winning company in Brentford.
The proposed improvements to rail links will be vital to enable the viability for the scheme to work successfully although the road networks have not been shown with any improvements. Bringing back the high speed connection between Brentford and Waterloo seems an easy win that hasn’t been included.
The regeneration plans for Brentford2 are long overdue and we welcome the future potential that could be achieved, if many issues raised by our members can be addressed by the local authorities and developers to enable further improvements on the schemes being put forward.
This will no doubt bring new prosperity from outside investors, but at what cost to our existing businesses that may be lost through the process. Our concerns are over the amount of businesses that have already gone and more that will be displaced by giving over land and offices to build more apartments.
We would like to see more space being given over to SMEs and start up business studios, and to see a coherent business and retail strategy3 in place first, with financial incentives for those who wish to maintain and expand established business in Brentford.
I would ask all our members of the Chamber, to write to me directly with your own views regarding the current and future redevelopment plans that are happening in Brentford. Particularly tell us how you see your business potential within these developments over the coming years and if or how it will affect your business growth.
