Proposing a waterside strategy

Proposing a waterside strategy

Three of the principal waterside stakeholders affected by the Ballymore development have put together a proposed waterside strategy. Rather than wait for Ballymore and/or Hounslow Council to put forward one Malthouse Marine Associates (Malthouse Wharf), Messrs Radleys Partnership (Town Wharf ) and Olivers Boatyard Ltd ( MSO Marine ) have put forward their draft strategy for the complicated waterside.

The waterway needs to provide an entrance/exit between the UK canal system and the river Thames. Water depth can vary substantially depending on tides and flash floods.

Plan of Brentford's Waterside
Brentford has a working marine area with barge traffic that is mostly leisure as well as a large community of permanently moored boat dwellers.
The strategy aims to cover the needs of all these stakeholders and the complex situation.

Brentford Chamber of Commerce, as well as Brentford Community Council and the Inland Waterways Association have written in support of the principles laid out in the strategy, with minor suggestions for improvements.

John Bowen of Malthouse Marine Associates will be briefly explaining the needs of the waterways at Brentford Chamber’s event on water heritage on October 11th at the London Museum of Water and Steam.

In the meantime we strongly advise reading the document, having a walk round the waterside and emailing any queries to John Bowen. One of Hounslow Heritage Guides’ Sunday walks covers the area if you would like to learn more about the heritage.
