Discover Brentford’s Waterside Industry

London Museum of Water and Steam

Join us at the London Museum of Water and Steam on October 11th to learn about Brentford’s Waterside Industry.

From its earliest beginnings Brentford has had a commercial heart, with a market from 1306 and cargo using the River Thames as the main route. With the coming of the Grand Junction Canal in 1805 Brentford become the transport hub for the south east of England. Goods were transhipped between river craft and canal traffic on the newly established canal network and an extensive variety of commercial activity developed supporting and derived from the water based traffic. In parallel, rapidly expanding London demanded increasing amounts of fresh drinking water supplies.Lots Ait
