Public meeting re Brent Lea Planning Application

Public meeting re Brent Lea Planning Application
Thursday May 28th from 7pm (doors open 6.30pm)

You may be aware that Hounslow Council have received a planning application to build on the Brent Lea Recreation ground. The Council are in favour of this and would like to pass it at their next Planning Committee meeting on June 4th at the Civic Centre.

The applicant is Floreat Education, wanting to establish a Primary Free school. While there is no doubt Hounslow and Brentford in particular are in desperate need of school places, both primary and secondary, there are plans to locate a number of schools on public green land. This is not just a one-off application.

Due to some pressure, Leader of the Council Steve Curran who is also councillor for Syon ward where Brent Lea is situation has agreed to an open meeting this evening, at 6.30 for 7.00pm. St Paul’s Church, Brentford. The meeting will be chaired by our President Suzie Betlem. Councillors and relevant Council Officers will be present.

Visit from the Mayor of London

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, paid a visit to Brentford on Wednesday.  He had been invited to Brentford by Mary Macleod and met with local people and businesses, including Brentford Chamber of Commerce President Suzie Betlem.

At at time of major change and upheaval within Brentford, Suzie had a brief discussion with Boris, during which they discussed the various issues currently faced by Brentford businesses and residents alike.  She explained that many believed that Hounslow Council and TfL had failed to comprehend the enormity of the transportation limitations and that the road infrastructure was already at breaking point – this was backed up by many attendees with people saying that it had taken 45 minutes to travel from Kew Bridge to Brentford.  Indeed the Mayor himself was delayed.
