Sky has set out its vision to use the power of television, creativity and sport to help young people in Britain and Ireland to build skills, experience and self-belief through the Sky Academy.
As it approaches its 25th anniversary at the start of 2014, Sky is establishing Sky Academy to deliver what it describes as a ground-breaking set of initiatives to support the under-25s, the generation born since Sky’s launch in 1989. Its ambition is to create opportunities for up to one million young people through Sky Academy by 2020.
Pillars Restaurant at University West London once again provided us with a marvellous venue for our second Brentford Dragons’ event, welcoming us with a glass or two of fizz before serving us a delicious three course meal provided by the award winning catering students.
Before dinner was served our very own professional Deborah Hall introduced us to the four fantastic dragons:
• Leslie Feore, House Manager and Administrator for Syon House;
• Guy Lambert, Treasurer and Director of Thamesbank Credit Union;
• Lee Doyle, Chief Executive Officer of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust;
• Giovanni Valentini, Assistant Manager of Redefine and Holiday Inn Hotels.
Our host and proud owner of Maydek, Derek Zwirn gave us a warm welcome and explained his business models and his son Andrew Zwirn displayed his state of the art kitchen appliances.
Join us on November 5th at Pillars restaurant as a select number of business students pitch their business ideas to the Dragons, who will quiz them and give advice on the feasibility of their project.
Black History Month was brought to life at West Thames College, Isleworth when Ben Odeje, the first black footballer to play for England, visited on 16 October. Ben spoke to students about his experience of football in the early 70s, seemingly a world away from modern day football matches.
Kew Bridge Pumping Station is an internationally significant site of the water supply industry, housing the most important collection of working water pumping machinery and related unique historical collections in the world, all housed in a range of grade 1 listed buildings.
A £2m lottery funded project is transforming the museum, including the appointment of new staff, positioning the museum as the most nationally significant site for the operation of large historic machinery.
The next Brentford Chamber Event, to which all all members and their guests are invited, will take place at Maydek Kitchens, in Ferry Quays on Tuesday 22nd October from 6:15pm.
At the moment, there is not an easy way to get in contact with students on different courses even within the same faculty. This makes recruiting people with specialist skills, especially for complicated projects, very difficult.
Student Loop can offer a solution. We want to create a communication hub, that’s central in connecting students from course to course for the purpose of networking, collaboration, sharing information and any other pursuits they want to follow and share.
If you are a local woman looking for a challenge, there’s never been a better time to start your own business.
Come along to EMC, Brentford and hear how on 18th October from 8:30-10am.
