LB Hounslow Responds

Brentford Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to Brendon Walsh last month raising a small number of important issues. Here is Brendon’s response.

Thank you for your letter of 17 September, and I am pleased that you found the visit to be a positive one. Officers would like to thank you and your colleagues for their time and we have already put into motion responses to several of the issues raised, as well as projects to build upon the exciting opportunities for further regeneration and economic growth that exist in Brentford’s unique context. I would like to respond to the specific points raised in your letter.

Planning Process

The Council places a great deal of importance on quality of design, and works with applicants from an early stage to ensure that the opportunities presented by individual sites and land uses are realised to create a quality environment for all. This is a responsibility we take seriously. At the early stages of a project we are pro-active about getting the ‘big moves’ right in terms of massing, orientation and access.

What Does Redevelopment of Brentford Mean For Your Business?

Dear Members,

I was invited to the launch of the Golden Mile future plans1 for Brentford, presented by London Borough of Hounslow last Thursday.

The plans put forward are futuristic and will no doubt make a huge impact on those who live and work here over the coming years.

It was very encouraging to see the increased development that is happening at BskyB and a future Brompton World centre potentially being built to keep this award winning company in Brentford.

The proposed improvements to rail links will be vital to enable the viability for the scheme to work successfully although the road networks have not been shown with any improvements. Bringing back the high speed connection between Brentford and Waterloo seems an easy win that hasn’t been included.

Brentford Chamber invite you to Championship football and lunch

Brentford Football Club

Our first Championship outing resulted in a 3-2 win for Brentford FC. Sophie Buckle sGuests at Novotelaid “Despite the referee’s best efforts, both teams played open, attractive, end-to-end football that was exciting to watch.  The result and the style of play was cracking with one of the friendliest atmospheres I’ve experienced at an English club.  A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  Basking in sunshine in the stand, we could have been watching La Liga!”

Sophie also thought that “Lunch at the brand new Novotel was fantastic.  The service exceeded all expectation and was equivalent to some of London’s finest”.

Call for a Business Strategy

Brentford Chamber of Commerce would like to see:

  • attractive buildings that mitigate their mass and density and therefore make the area appealing
  • a serious strategy to help maintain commercial space in Brentford, in particular for existing businesses, with the suggestion of using ground floor of car parks;
  • a retail strategy to help businesses establish themselves before being charged full market rent;
  • a more considered application for the development of the area south of the high street.
