Brentford is full of the most extraordinary people and companies. One such company is RedRoutemaster.com, based in Brentford and proud owners of some beautiful Routemaster Buses. We’d like to thank Brentford FC for hosting our last meeting and Brian Burgess and Chris Gammon for bringing us up to date with plans for Lionel Road.
Our next meeting is on February 26th at the Six Bells, an opportunity to meet the new landlords Glyn and Sonio, and sample their fares. We will be spotlighting a few members and their companies in bite-sized pieces. Andy Ward will be introducing his new company RAW Unlimited to us amongst others. If you’d like to give a five minute talk please get in touch. Formal invitations will be issued shortly but do let us know if you’re coming.

Local Authorities currently collect the business rates wholly on behalf of Central Government and receives its considered proportion back in the Revenue Support Grant and Formula Grant to fund services.
From April 2013 Local Authorities will be retaining a proportion of their income. In London, Borough’s will keep a 30% share of the collected rates, the GLA get 20% and Central Government receive the remaining 50%. The government will be setting a Business Rates Baseline for all authorities; this takes into account all the revenue the government thinks the authority needs based on a number of variables.
Based on their calculations and Hounslow’s expected rates yield, the Council have been determined to be a top-up authority of the new scheme; this means they do not collect enough money just on the 30% retained to pay for their statutory services and we will be receiving an annual ‘top-up’ to our funding from Central Government.

Suzie was quoted on Friday 11th January’s edition of the Hounslow Chronicle in an article about the possible relocation of Watermans.
Suzie Betlam, president of the Brentford Chamber of Commerce, also agrees Watermans should move into the centre of the town, but emphasised the centre needs to be done in the right way. She said: “I think it’s brilliant news Watermans wants to move into Brentford. They have outgrown their building but a new one needs to be specifically and properly designed by an architect who specialises in theatres. It’s also important that a hub is created for people to socialise and hold events there.
