Watermans wants to move home

Suzie was quoted on Friday 11th January’s edition of the Hounslow Chronicle in an article about the possible relocation of Watermans.

Suzie Betlam, president of the Brentford Chamber of Commerce, also agrees Watermans should move into the centre of the town, but emphasised the centre needs to be done in the right way. She said: “I think it’s brilliant news Watermans wants to move into Brentford. They have outgrown their building but a new one needs to be specifically and properly designed by an architect who specialises in theatres. It’s also important that a hub is created for people to socialise and hold events there.

“I think it will create a focus in Brentford town centre, to its shops and businesses in general.

“The next problem is who is going to fund it? Ballymore can give them the space but it’s not up to them to provide the funds to build it, it’s got to go out to the private market.”

Ms Betlam also said the Chamber of Commerce supports Watermans charging for parking. She said: “I don’t think you should have to pay for parking when you go to the theatre but it’s not a nice environment to park in at the moment so you have to balance them out and if it’s going to be refurbished that’s great.

“They said they would keep the costs down which is encouraging.”
