Something Sounds Wonderful at the Musical Museum

On Saturday 9th April, from 1pm – 10pm, in the fabulous setting of the Musical Museum, an exciting day of live music, workshops and performances will be held by the inspiring Connect & Create, with all proceeds going towards Disability Network Hounslow’s vital work.

The flagship event will once again be opened by the Mayor of Hounslow playing bass guitar, followed by an appearance of the magnificent Wurlitzer, star of the Musical Museums collection. An exciting array of bands from London and the South East will follow, featuring a diverse range of music, from Latin rhythms, African drums, to wild Balkan gypsy music, not to mention a Harp Workshop and an inclusive music session from Joy of Sound!

Docking Station Launch

An idea from the young people of Hounslow

‘The Social Enterprise High Street Challenge’ challenged young people in Hounslow secondary schools to develop a business plan for an empty shop in Brentford High Street in just eight weeks. Selected in a Dragons Den-like final last Autumn, the winning business concept “Docking Station” came from a team at Hounslow Manor school.

The new shop will be run by nine apprentices who started their training at West Thames College in December and will continue their technical training at Thames Valley University in partnership Hounslow Apprenticeship Training.

Brentford Christmas Lights Dinner Dance

For the past two years the Residents of Brentford have been able to enjoy the Christmas lights in the High Street.  The Brentford Christmas Lights Appeal 2010 is again seeking to raise the £3,500 required to cover the cost of the illuminations.  The lights make an enormous difference to the High Street and really help to invoke the spirit of Christmas.

Last year the fund raising gala was held at the Great Conservatory in Syon Park (see the photos), by kind permission of the Duke of Northumberland and a terrific time was had by all.

Fire, Flooding, Power Failure, Terrorism

It seems that every day the media is reporting a new incident. Whilst some may say it is an exaggerated portrayal, all business managers know that these risks can and do affect businesses everywhere.

As a business in Brentford, it is in your best interest to ensure that you and your suppliers are resilient. When emergencies occur it is stressful for all involved but by having some awareness beforehand, this can help. It is important to be aware of the types of risk that you may face; how these risks can be reduced; what the emergency services will do; and the procedures that are available so that you can get back into trading as quickly as possible.
